Default car messed up

so basically i did something very stupid. accidently went to race a friend. parked beside him and he was talking so i put my s2k in neutral he wanted to race so i dumped the clutch around 5000 rpm forgetting i was in neutral. now theres is a bad mechanical noise. doesnt happen at idle only when i try to drive it. i dont think its my rear end since being in neutral no gear was selected in the transmission to make the driveshaft spin. and it doesnt happen at idle so i dont think the clutch splines are broke. im thinking the input shaft or the counter gear for it may have gotten messed up. just want some thought from other people maybe to help me find out what the problem will be. pulling transmission out tommorow anyways just to check

How do you dump the clutch in neutral? You weren't in gear right?

Won't it just bounce off the limiter if you're in neutral?
