Default Car is running lean

Hi,

I have a 00 S and today I finally had a chance to check my spark plugs. I noticed that the tip is whitish so it seems that my car is been running lean. I also noticed that the white ceramic part showing the brown color which i think this is a sign of the car running too hot. I checked the gap and I think that the reason is because the gap could be wider than 0.040''

What should I do to prevent the car from running lean? Can I reuse these spark plugs, Would sanding them down and regap them to the right specs helps? or should I just buy 4 new plugs and go from there.

ps. the car also has lumpy idle once in awhile. ( I will try the MAP whack)

Anyone out there can give me some advice? thanks

There is nothing wrong with a stock NA car's plugs looking like that. Don't sand the plugs, you'll remove the platinum from the tip.

Stock cars run lean at part throttle, normally.

Unless you are blown, you are worrying about something that is pretty normal.

The brown is actually a sign of it recieving enough fuel...not overly hot. And the white/grayish is normal under crusing like they said.

I thought xviper recommended to sand the negative electrodes down with sand paper?

The car has 42k miles now, would it be a good idea to change the spark plugs now or can I reuse them?

This is so, but I do recall posting a "caution" that if sanding, DO NOT touch the central electrode and to not do this when it involves a double platinum plug where the negative electrode also has platinum. For copper plugs, go nuts. It won't matter.

You can have either or anything in between. There is no specific number, just a range.
