Hi all,

For the last week or so, when I go to start the car first thing in the morning or when I get ready to head home from work (both cases when the car has been sitting all day or over night) it seems to start OK for a few seconds and thens bogs/hesitates/stalls right to the edge of feeling like it is about to die. Car shudders and struggles for a few seconds, and then the rpms come back up and it is OK. If I shut off the car and start again, I cannot duplicate this.

If I watch the rpms, it looks like 2-2.5k on first start for a couple seconds, and then drops to maybe 500 for a few seconds while struggling and then back up.

Any thoughts? I did put in a new battery a month ago maybe, but it was a couple weeks before this started happening.

Oh, live in Austin, TX area so cold is relative. With our cold front it was ~62 or so this morning... when this first happened I think it was low 90s or so.

Thanks,

- Ryan
RynoS2K. I am also having this same EXACT problem. I am also in Austin,TX. I have searched many treads and still havent been able to really pinpoint what is causing this "studder start." I have had this happen on both hot and cold days. Usually this happens in the morning when the car has sat overnight but more recently it seems to be happening even when Im headed out for lunch. If you do find out the issue please resond.

Zkilla55, did the new cat and the O2 sensor fixed your bogging/hesitation problem? I don't have these symptoms but I am curious with the outcome.

How's the weather? When it starts to get cool in the fall, the ECU takes some time to adjust, and many owners get similar behavior but it corrects itself soon enough. How long has this been going on?

if car sits for long time it does this.. and specially when in the morning, when car was sitting over night..
it feels like miss fire but when i give lil gas, it comes back to normal and drives fine afterward.. odd..
i didn't even think about the cat but now that i saw this post, i'll go check the cat..
i guess it would be good reason to get me an HFC~~

Well, I have heard this before but I would have assumed my ecu has had more than enough time to relearn. I have been having this issue for about the past 2-3 weeks. More recently it has seemed to not be as bad. This leads me to beleive what has been stated, weather change, as the culprit. I still plan on checking my plugs just to make sure that isn't the issue. Thanks for the info and any additional info is helpfull.

My car's been running great since the new cat and O2 sensor. It still starts up a little harder then I'd like, so maybe the hard start has nothing to do w/the cat.

I've noticed my car is a bit louder and seems more powerful after the fix. So far I haven't bogged yet, but it wasn't a regular problem before....it only happened once in a while. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.
