Default Car will not reach redline

hello. i had a defective block and had the engine replaced. all was smooth and fine afterwards until recently. i decided to pull the car out after letting it sit in the garage for a week. i drove hard to feel this baby. anyway, when i mash the gas, the car pulls nicely to mid and i can hear the vtec after engagement. however, at top end, the car feels weak and won't pull as hard. even worse, the car won't go up to redline! something is definitely wrong here.

perhaps my car is in limp/safe mode? perhaps i need an obd2 diagnostic? is there anyway i can check for any error codes on the car myself?

thank you in advance...

andy.

oh, i forgot to mention, i free-reved without a gear engaged. however after hitting the highest rpm mark, the rpm drops gradually, pauses and increases until the highest rpm mark. it doesn't rev to limiter like any normal car (or even in gt4).

Was the car cold when you did this (ie under 3 bars on the temp gauge)? that would cause this problem.

Try it in gear under a load. I've never free reved a S to redline, and don't plan on trying it. You may be dealing with a no load rev-limiter.

Usually a Check Engine light will be on if there are any error codes. Do you have any modifications...like a VAFC?

i have an exhaust on. this is the only modification regarding the powertrain.

basically, what i am experiencing is a early fuel cut off/rev limiter. i will try to knock the MAP sensor.

must i remove the map sensor from the car to knock off the crud?

I don't mean to be critical, but I just don't understand this part. What we have here is a failure to communicate.

Why don't you try driving the car in gear before assaulting the Map sensor?

Revving to redline with no load is asking for disaster. You should not do this.

Put it on the road, run it up in second or third gear and tell us if you think there is something wrong.
