Default Castrol Edge 10w30 UOA

This the Castrol edge with the titanium crap. I have gone about 5000 miles of hard vtecing!! This oil seems to be pretty good oil according to black stone labs. If you have been thinking using this oil, go for it! I have got 170,000 miles and still vtecing strong!!

I made the switch from M1 during last oil change. Good to hear. Thanks for reporting.

Yea I drive my s2k pretty hard and i'm kind of anal when it comes to oil changes. I had a hard time going past the 3000 mile interval. I'll go 7500 miles this time and send in another sample.

looks good, nothing in that report to complain about , that is a nice oil with a really good additive package.

Nice! Thanks for sharing the samples! I have started using the same Castrol Titanium 10w30 when I got my AP2 after hearing good things about the regular Castrol Edge Syntec in the F22C and definitely plan on at least 5000 miles as well.

Thanks for posting. Your engine certainly looks healthy still. I like the Edge with Ti formula too. I've been tinkering around with it myself. The 10W-30 appears to be very shear stable too. This engine usually shears commercial oils down a grade.

Question about the make-up oil during the OCI:
How long between the last time you added oil and the sample taking?
IOW: how much could the added oil have changed the TBN and 100C visc?

Oil consumption doesn't seem to be in linear relation with miles driven.
What I mean: (0.8 / 3200)*5000 = 1.25, and you used 1.6
Given that you specified 1.6 means you're pretty precise.
When did you add the 0.35 quart?

Thanks for posting!

Umm well my AP1 only burns oil if I drive it pretty hard. If I'm driving normal it's doesn't burn any. I always keep the oil level at the top xx's below the H. So I may have added more oil than neccessary. I believe I added that .35 quart 2-3 weeks before the oil change. I hope I'm making sense!

Yes, it makes sense

One gets the most accurate UOA results when no oil is added during the OCI.
Accurate = showing the real change in properties (like TBN and 100C vis) during the OCI.
With an engine that uses oil this is hard to do, especially on longer OCI's

On the other hand, adding oil "all the time" makes it easier to extend the OCI.

Your UOA shows good numbers but isn't a true report on the Edge oil when it comes to TBN and shear.

Btw.. I found the PDS of the Edge Ti line-up and some properties - given by Castrol - are listed as "OK"
For example, the HTHS for the complete range is spec'd as OK.......
C'mon.. OK?
What's the value.. I wanna know!

Oh well....

Of course this is an accurate UOA for this oil in his engine. The previous UOA of the same oil in his engine confirms it's not shearing, but does not have a TBN to confirm good TBN retention. But I suspect he did not reach dangerously low levels. What more could you ask for, a UOA in your engine?

Many oil companies are leaving the HTHS out of their data sheets now, or just saying it's >2.9. I'm not sure why, but it's happening.

I have the 10W-30 in my car now. But I'll probably wait until after the second fill before another UOA. I was using their 5W-30 previously, so I don't want accuracy to be a bone of contention.
