catback install

Default catback install

I'm having problems with the three bolts that connect the catalyc converter to the rest of the pipe, i want to install a catback, but that is impossible until i loose then up......any body know how to do it.....

Oh man, those were HARD to get off. In fact, I didn't even take them all off because I was installing a test pipe with mine. I wanted to take the cat off for easy storage but I couldn't get one of the nuts off.

I recommend trying a torque wrench, if you have one. That and tons of silicone spray

You need a "penetrant" not a lubricant. Use something like Liquid Wrench. Spray it on liberally, then go away for lunch of something. Then come back and give it another squirt before putting a wrench on them.

i broke all of mine. easy to replace also when i helped my brother he got them all off no prob but when we went to install the test pipe later that day we broke his as well.

try the liquid wrench and if it doesnt work just turn em till they snap.

I have done this job 7 times over the years on different S2000s and have never broken a single one of those bolts. It's all in the prep work.

Please break them off... then hammer the studs out of the cat's flange and replace them with stainless hard ware.

It may be easier to break them with the cat and exhaust off the car. You should be able to get more leverage on them that way.

I don't know why you would go through the trouble of prepping and keeping those bolts. No matter how easy they come off, it's only going to get harder and harder to remove them in the future.

If you have any experience with a plasma cutter, just cut the heads off and knock em out with a hammer and pin, thats what i did. Grind off any excess which may have stuck to the flanges carefully, and you're good to go. Assuming you have a plasma cutter. If all else fails try taking it to your local shop, im sure they would be happy to take em off with an impact or something for relatively cheap, if not free of charge.

its all about PB blaster... just make sure you use a closed wrench and get some damn torque on that bitch... a breaker bar helps... don't kick it...

Liquid Wrench/PB Blaster should be more than sufficient to get the bolts out. The only exception I can think of is if you live where they salt the roads in winter, but if XViper doesn't have a problem in Calgary just using Liquid Wrench, I can't see how much more is needed. I've installed about 20 exhausts over the years and I've never had problems with just using Liquid Wrench or WD40.
