Default CEL 1457

Anyone here have CEL 1457? It first came on for me at about 200 miles on my 2005 and comes back on every time I reset the code. Honda hasn't found anything so far in the 2 times that I have taken my car in. The car drives fine though. They said, both times, that they did the tests in the service manual for leaks and faulty sensors...

Anyone else have experience with this code or have any recommendations that I can make to the service people?

Did they even tell you what this was pertaining to or did they just tell you the code and sent you on your way?
It has to do with the fuel recovering system. This can mean anything from a bad gas cap (or a loose one) to a bad fuel filling neck causing the gas cap to not seal properly to a bad EVAP cannister sensor to a bad cannister itself.

I think the gas cap throws a different code from what I recall on the boards. I pulled the 1457 code myself a few times, and got the same one they were getting. Either way, I always have done at least 3 clicks on the cap.

They didn't tell me what it was pertaining to though; they said they ran all the diagnostics in the service manual and didn't find anything, but the service manual I bought says it's to do with the canister.

The code I got for EVAP leak was 1456. This was caused by a faulty gas cap. The dealer replaced it and I haven't had the code come up again. Also, sometimes the 3 clicks on the gas cap is not enough of an indicator to know that the cap is tight. I now grab the outside of the gas cap as I would a soda bottle cap and twist it until its tight. Kind of a inconveniece but it beats taking the car to the dealer.

Not sure what code 1457 is though.

Something to do with the EVAP Canister, that part is established.

If it is your gas cap, you might want to read this:

I had my gas cap replaced about a year ago, and it's getting hard to tighten again. I suspect that it's the fuel fillter tube.

I am now being told that it's the valve on the EVAP Canister, a few hours diagnosing and calls to honda tech determined this.

There are multiple DTC's that can set in the Evap System. A P1456 is the only code an S will have if the gas cap is loose.

The Evap system is split into 2 halves The tank side and canister side. A P1457 is for a canister side leak.

An Evap leak can't be seen without a specialized smoke generator that most shops do not have. No liquids leak out of the Evap system, only vapor. This makes troubleshooting quite difficult.

There can be multiple causes of any evap DTC. such as Faulty solenoids, valves and o-ring not sealing, crimped or loose hoses, etc.

So if I didn't fix this, I'd have an incorrect pressure in the fuel system somewhere, right? What could this affect, engine efficiency, bursting fuel lines/tank?

There are no fuel pressure issues.

The Evap system recovers fuel vapor that exists in the tank, and vapor when fueling the car.

Sometimes a sticking canister purge solenoid will cause a long crank time.
