So i was driving home today and noticed the cel on. Car runs fine etc. I know it could be a number of things... i had the same thing happen to my accord and took it to the dealership and they ran the computer on it and something came up with the catalytic converter...exhaust was fine..these cars just have sensors for everything...that was 2 years ago and car is still running fine to date..Waste of $75 to have them run the computer & shut off the light...So what are my options?? i didn't alter anything since i bought the car.should i try d/c 'ing the battery to reset everything? thanks

 

Unless you know what your code is right now......

What do you think the chances are that your S2000 has the same problem now as your Accord had?
Do you think because they are both Honda's the have the same problems?

What advise are you expecting?
If it were my car I would get the code.
So I would know what I am resetting.
Does that make sense to you?

 

The reason i stated about my accord was that it was a minor problem...not suggesting it was the same problem...it just thought it was meaningless to run a scan for 75 bucks shut off my light and say it was just a minor glitch..i was seeking advice as to ways around not getting ripped off by the dealership.

 

I'm not familiar with US automotive shops but I'm sure there are places where one could "get the code pulled" for less then $75.

This may be a stupid ? but my mant. required light just kicked on as well. I went to take it to Autozone but niether of us could find the CPU port. Where is it?!

 

For resetting the maint. req light, just put hold the trip button down while u put it on acc...and it will reset and the light will go off.

 

didnt work. I did just notice that my idle seems a bit low and when i give it a bit of gas in nuetral it drops to about 2 or 3 bars and shutters like its about to die. Any idea?

You finally got it right?

 

Maintenance Required Indicator Reset (S2000).

1.) Put key in ignition
2.) Push trip reset button, continue to hold button for 10 seconds.
3.) Turn key to next position.
4.) Hold button for approximately 10 seconds or until light stays off.

The secret is holding the reset button and turning the key to the next position. It does not specify that in the manual

As far as the CEL goes, I agree with Spitfire, you really need to get the DTC (diagnostic trouble code).

The ECU "learns" driving and ambient conditions. Sometimes the weather can really mess with it. Recently in So CA we had a heat wave (high pressure too), I was driving around during it and my ECU did a little of the shuddering as I coasted/braked coming up to a stop sign. It mostly occurs right as the vehicle is coming to a complete stop (my observation). My car did this a little when it was new, and it has done it for a little while after a couple ECU resets in the past. Usually after a while the ECU "learns" and stops doing this. After the weather cooled down here my idle is very stable again. It is important not to give the car gas when it shudders, this may interfere with the ECU's "learning". After a few day's of driving (3-5) the ECU should adapt and stabilize the idle.
