Prior to incident, I just got done changing the oil and transmission fluid and all seemed well. Made sure both fluids were sufficient w/ no leaks and then decided to give the car a test drive and all seemed well until I tried engaging in vtec (which didn't happen) and then soon after a cel pops up. Tried the ecu reset and then when I turn the key to the on position the cel dissapears for a few seconds seeming to have dissapear and then it comes back on. If anyone has any suggestions or thoughts on what it could possibly be, please help

Update: Used a scanner and the code that popped up was P1259 (Vtec System Malfunction). I've already checked to make sure that the oil level was good and that all the plugs from the vtec solenoid were connected and when trying to reset the cel it goes away and then reappears. While driving the car all seems well until I come to a complete stop and then the car dies and when accelerating the car cuts off at about 6k rpm and no vtec. What could possibly be causing this?

Check the connector that hangs out horizontally from the vtec solonoid housing directly above the oil filter.

If this is disconnected the ECU cannot confirm that the vtec solonoid has successfully switched oil into the VTEC rockers and the ECU goes into limp home mode.

 

But also recheck oil level

 

and the actual cel code

 

is it the one with a rubber boot cover over it, if so it's plugged in.

 

I've also check the oil level and that seems fine also.

 

instead of spending all day guessing, go rent a scan tool from autozone and with that you can ussually find the exact problem

 

Not that one. The important one is higher up. Its just below the rocker cover next to the #1 header pipe. It has a grey plastic plug with wires in it.

the vtec oil pressure switch? i'll take a look and also try to have the codes pulled.
