Default CEL: MAP sensor

I'm in the process of moving, so I gave my S to my parents in exchange for their Expedition for about a week. Last Thursday, the CEL came on and I got my dad to read out the CEL flashes to me: 9 long, 0 short. It wasn't on the list. I guess my dad was courteous enough to take it in, because he called and told me the problem was the MAP sensor and that they'd ordered a replacement. I want to know if whacking the MAP sensor will fix the problem or not. I've read about problems that the stupid thing causes for other people, but it's all bogging or weird idles -- no CEL. So, it seems as though it may really need to be replaced. If a simple whack will fix it, I'll cancel the replacement order. I'd take the simplest route and try whacking it myself, but I'm way too far away right now. Thanks for any replies.

i'd need to know the specific code to be able to tell you trouble shooting steps. we could give you trouble shooting for a specific code, but they could be wrong if we mis-guess or your dad incorrectly diagnosed the code.

Wack it once, wack it always

Replace it, and use the Honda ziptie and some dielectric compound.

I'm afraid I don't know the code; I don't have an ODB-II scanner. It's what some service tech must've told him. Anyway, by now the part is on its way, so I'm going to try whacking it and see what happens. It's going to be replaced no matter what the result is.
