Default CEL P0030 - Valve Adjustment?

Hi Guys!

Just need some quick feedback... I have a MY00 with about 133k miles on it. It sat for 3 weeks while I was on vacation and when I came back last week it started up fine, drove fine, etc. I then let it sit for a couple more days until yesterday. Again, it started up fine but as soon as I started driving I felt a huge loss of power. Then, of course, the CEL started blinking. It almost felt like the engine was slightly sputtering. Took it to a local mechanic immediately (since I guess driving with a blinking CEL is a major no-no) and the diagnosis is that the valves need to be adjusted? Does this sound right to you guys? He said the cylinders are giving off about 175psi each and should be at 220. Basically, my s2k is currently a Honda Accord He said he THINKS this should fix the problem. Just wanted to get the forum's feedback before I spend another $400 on it.

Thanks!
Victoria

Edit: the car is stock except for MeganRacing springs. Just got a new master slave cylinder last month as apparently there was a pretty bad leak.

Tell us if its stock or not. If not, list wat mods you have on it so we may farther help you out and the last thing you you fix on it. When the mechanic says he thinks it should fix it, that means the mechanic doesn't know his stuff. you should take it to someone else. find out wat the code is and go from there.

Did you mean p0300- random misfire?

It would be rare to find valves tight enough to cause a misfire.

I think that diagnosis is crap.

Another $400 on it? Did they charge you that much for a compression test and their 'diagnosis'? Were they quoting $400 for a valve adjustment? If all the cylinders have comparable but low compression, I'm wondering if he had the throttle open when doing the compression test.

It seems like the going rate for a VA by a competent shop is closer to $100.

Maybe you should find a new mechanic.

GL w/ the repairs.

- Do a leak down test
- Look at the plugs for oil
- Drain the oil and look for metal shavings

That's a good start
