I used the Xviper tutorial to change my tranny fluid to GM Synchromesh tonight. Here's the bottle:
I also found this filler valve that fits on a gear oil jug and some transmission fluid bottles. I had just a few ounces in the gear oil jug and cleaned it out with dawn and water. I then dried out the bottle and poured the synchromesh in that. It worked great:
yes thank you very much Xviper.. the instructions were great..
i too used the same filler tube.. the only difference was that i used Penzoil Synchromesh stuff because the damn chevy parts place closes right at 5:00 (good customer service huh).
the tranny feels better than it ever has. (01 with 10k)
Bass - The parts guy at my dealership seemed to think the GM stuff was made by Pennzoil anyway (how else could two tranny fluids have a trade name of "Synchromesh"). One of my clients is the distributor for Pennzoil in Central Ohio, I'll ask him. I hope it is true because the Pennzoil is about half the price.
I haven't had a chance to drive mine around yet. I'm going to do my differential tomorrow then i'll find out.
I've been lucky that xviper has changed mine to Synchromesh personally
The GM fluid is a little bit thiner than the Honda MTF and is a semi-synthetic. That would explain why it works better in the cold. I used to have a tough 2nd gear entry when the tranny was cold, now no problems and it is smooth when cold.
After warming up, the two fluids are about the same. I would even go so far as to say that the Honda MTF works better than the GM for me, when it is warm since I can feel a bit more of a resistance with it, where the GM you just slide right into gear.
Ubetit, Thanks for checking. I remember seeing a post that mentioned that they are the same.
Former, you like the resistance better than letting the tranny just slide in? that is one of the the things i like about Synchomesh. my tranny seemed pretty notchy b4 but now it feels great.
Notchiness and resistance are two different things to me. Before I have a 3rd gear notch, it feels like hitting the gate when going into 3rd. With GM, that is virtually gone now.
Resistance is just the split second before the gear just pops into place, I like that feel, then pop... that is a bit different than feeling bumps or notchiness.
