Default Changed to LE 607 today

The Redline 75w90 that was put in at 1300 miles or so was in bad shape - it looked like the OEM fluid that I took out at 1300 - dark, sludgey and tons of metal particles/mettallic sludge on the drain plug. Car has 7K on it now. I put the LE 607 in with my big syringe. That stuff is seriously thick - strands of it were solidifying and blowing around like spider webs in the air (around 65 degrees). I consider myself a smooth driver (I run the car hard - but no clutch drops, lots of double-clutching etc.) so I was surprised to see the second draining in such bad shape.

On a brighter note - the MT-90 that has been working great for me still looks like new after the same mileage interval - I just pulled the fill plug and the dribble looked like brand new fluid - so I'm leaving that in for another 5-10K until the fill plug dribble looks worse.

I also took the opportunity to put ina new air filter, switch to the new style oil filter, and change the oil with GTX 10w30. AT 10K - Mobil1 is going in finally.

Should be able to take a nice drive tomorrow - today was all maintenance - changed the oil in the TSX too and washed all 3 cars.

When I took my orinigial fluid out of the car at 12,000 miles, there were very very little metal shaving on the drain plug.

Do you auto x often and or run the mountain roads?

Road Rage mentioned that this is a particularly heavy fluid.

The stuff coming out wasn't thick and heavy when it went in 5 thousand or so miles ago - thats why that type of thick is bad. It was sludgey and full of metal particles.

No autocross - but its my "fun" car - so I only drive it when I'm going to really drive it. So I put it through its paces, which is why I take extra good care of it and keep my eye on all the fluids

Who knows - maybe some of us actually got real 90W diff oil during the car's build, and others got something else like the fluid the dealers keep trying to put in there... Might make a world of difference in terms of metal shavings etc.

I changed to Redline's MT-90 today on my '04 after 5500 miles. The shift quality is much better. The notchiness going fom 1st to 2nd to 3rd is now gone. Good stuff!

Wow this post is a year old ;p

I can't decide on MT-90 or LE 607...

And also... Could you heat up the fluid to make it flow better before you change it?
