Do the easier and cheaper things first before headgasket. That should be the last thing to check.

I tried bleeding it on the ground but the fans would never kick on similar to what you have said. So then I checked on here and jacked up the front real high. Opened the back bleeder valve and filled it from there, then I filled the radiator and let it run and bleed itself. Ever since I did that bleed there have been 0 problems and have had 3 bars max.

I changed my radiator out a few months ago during winter. I would have heat but when I stopped at a red light the heat would get cold (temp was fine). It turned out to be an air bubble trapped.

Sounds like kinda the same issue since your heat is not working. Give it a good bleed. It sucks but a lot better than a roasted engine.

How about having the radiator tested? It had 55K miles on it when you bought it so it could be bad. Better yet, buy a new radiator and thermostat.

~copy and paste from xvipers post~

Now I put the rad cap back on, started the car and ran it for less than a minute to circulate the water and dilute out any left over old coolant there may still be left.
Now I shut off the engine and did the whole drain thing all over again. After the 3rd flush, the water ran clear and I was ready to button it up for the final time. Put the clamp back on the oil cooler hose. Remove the overflow tank and rinse it out, put it back, put the tube back onto the rad filler neck. Fill the overflow tank to

If you dont have hot heat, you have air in the system plain and simple.

1 Run the car to 3 bars, plus 1 minute.

2 Shut it off.

3 Open the front 12mm bleeder, purge air, close it.

4 top off radiator (carefully, allow to cool if unsure)

repeat until the heat is good and hot.

An s2k with air in the system can go for 20 miles and seem fine, then suddenly overheat.

Hot heat is key.....
