Default Changing clutch - tips / parts i should buy?

Hi guys,

CHanging my clutch on weekend with help from a friend.

Car is now 12 years old and done 117 miles and the clutch only started slipping a month ago haha.

I've bought a new flywheel as well.

I've been told by a friend that i need to replace the propshaft bolts that connect to the gearbox (all 6 of them) so i've ordered them from Honda... is this true btw? do they always need to be changed

Also what else would i need? do i really need to change my flywheel bolts? my friend said hes never had problems with any other car in the past... also i see i can get ARP clutch bolts?

Am i going OTT or do all these components commonly break and need replacing when doing clutch?

thanks in advance for the help!

Would it be a safe bet to replace all of those bolts? Yes.

Have I ever replaced them? No.

On countless clutches, I have never replaced a single bolt, unless it needed it (damaged, etc)

I assure you anything you get from arp will not match the quality of the stock honda bolts.

Re-use all with confidence, AND discretion.

The propshaft bolts are easy to round off at the wrench tip (internal hex). Of course, this can be avoided...but I would order a set just in case.

I'm not sure why you'd need to replace flywheel bolts unless they too were damaged from rounding the wrench tips.

Since you asked for tips on what to buy, my list for a S2000 clutch job is:

-Genuine Honda clutch disk, bearings, PP.

-AP1 factory Honda flywheel (or resurface).

-Honda rear main seal (optional. Yours may be fine. I always change them).

-Honda HT urea grease. Makes a pretty big difference. Even if you dont use HT urea....DON'T use anti sieze. Use high temp brake or bearing grease in lieu of HT urea.

-Honda release bearing guide sleeve. This gets overlooked and causes a pretty common set of problems. Don't inspect yours. Just replace it. Its $30.

Not an expert, but I do hear a lot of people complain about AP1 Clutch Buzz so maybe swap out the throw out bearing while you're in there anyway?

The throwout bearing does not cause buzz. But it should always be changed with a new one from a Honda dealer.

The AP1 disk causes buzz. So I always order an AP2 disk. Not sure if Honda now uses the same disk PN on their website for AP1's and AP2's. I've always just ordered AP2 disks.

Honda only sells the "AP2" version of the friction disc now because of the TSB from the AP1 clutch buzz.
