Default Changing Engine Oil

I was reading the K&N filter test post.

I am the one who uses K&N air/oil filter on my S.

After reading the posts, I am considering going back to OEM ones.

I have no problem with filters.

But I dont know what to do with engine oil.

Since I am changing engine oil every 3000 miles, I dont know if there is any big benefit by using synthetic oil.

many members claim that main benefit from synthetic is extended oil life.

I am currently use royal purple on my S.

So, would it hurt my engine if I go back to regular honda factory oil?

There will be benefits no matter how insignificant. if youre doing oil changes every 3K miles, no doubt the oil, even dino has lots of life left!

I change every 3K, but I do go with full synth. I was running RL but im switching to M1 for a year or so to do tests (cheaper to run M1...) on oil filters.

I figure its (at the most) 20 more dollars to spend on oil...and even if it helps slightly, its worth it imo.

Take a look here in the oil journals. A LOT of good info.

I just went from RP Synthetic to Castrol GTX and noticed no difference. Some people have said VTEC also kicks in better with dino oil. I change mine every 3000 miles, so I decided to give it a try. 5 quarts of GTX is only $15 at Walmart.

I did use a M1 oil filter though and that thing works well. My oil still looks clean after a couple weeks compared to the Honda filter.

i don't know how you planned on noticing any difference, unless you are speaking of engine oil analysis results.

I don't think any oil filter will filter out carbon. I may be wrong though

yeah, don't use the M1-105, it can back off

the general consensus is Mobil 1 EP 10w-30 and Amsoil 10w-30 are the top rated commonly available synthetics, Valvoline full syn also seems to be a good product

in a high revving engine like this, full syn oils are worth every penny, and you can usually go to a 5-6k drain interval safely, so use of dino oil is not going to save you much $

first thing I noticed after changing to full syn at 4k miles was the valvetrain noise at start-up was reduced significantly

I have a hunch that alot of the high oil consuming AP1s out there used regular dino oil

I didn't expect a performance increase or anything. I just meant there were no apparent drawbacks from going back to dino oil.

If you read a lot of the older oil debate threads, there are actually people who stopped consuming oil after switching from synthetic back to regular.
