Default Check Engine.....everyone With An S2k Needs To Read This!!!!

I was at the dealership today getting my first oil change. About 5 minutes after i left my buddy who works there called me and told me that there is a recall on all 2000, 2001, and 2002 S2000's.

This recall is a god send to anyone who has been experiencing CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS!!! The spark plug gasket is faulty, and as a result one of the spark plugs could come loose and cause the CE Light to come on. Also, the label in the owners manual is wrong so they will replace that too, so be sure to take your manual with you when you go.

HONDA WILL NOT RELEASE THE NOTIFICATION LETTERS UNTIL AUG 6, AND THE PARTS WILL NOT BE ALLOCATED TO DEALERSHIPS UNTIL AUG 26. SO DONT WORRY IF A CE LIGHT COMES ON, IT'S PROBABLY THE GASKET.

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up....

John

Umh, I have to dissagree...this would be a reason to worry. Don't ever ignore your check engine light...that's ridiculous.

Thanks for the warning, but this has been brought up several times in the recent past. Also, I agree with Wes - don't ignore a Check Engine light. A few of the members here have had to replace their engines possible due to loose spark plugs. It's easy enough to check their torque with simple hand tools and a small amount of mechanical sense.

The first time this came up was long before Honda issued any TSB. I checked my plugs back then and #3 was finger tight! If you have the tools and knowhow, don't wait for the letter, check them now.

Ok...Check engine light can mean like over one hundred things
....I have an obd2 scanner seems that if the spark plug comes loose it can cause a misfire.....this will be reported by a code. There are so many codes that can mean many different things...One code can mean that there is five or six things you have to check to find the problem...so don't ignore your check engine light....Just get a scan at your dealer or any shop take 5 minutes to do a scan ...or buy your own scanner under two hundred dollars....never worry again....and Know whats up before ya bring it to the dealer

For your information, i received a letter from Honda this week advising of this recall. Plugs will be modified under warranty at next visit to dealer All they will do is install a stainless steel washer and increase the torque from 18 N to 25N-m.

Trigest, what is your location? Are you US?

To my knowledge, if you're US, you'd be the first to receive a letter... Pls. advise.
