Default Check engine light on AGAIN

Well my check engine light keeps coming on. I had it into the dealer twice now and now its on again. I think they said it was some emissions sensor. I am now past my 36k warranty but they better take care of this.
The first time that it came on they just said it was an intermittent o2 sensor problem.

Could this be the beginning symptoms of the engine #4 cylinder scoring problems?

Well I think the symptoms of the #4 cylinder scroing is when you have tapping..... To check this I would take a long (1 foot) screw driver and place it on all four cylinders and place you ear next to the drivers handle. You can pretty much hear if anything is tapping.....Then try and pull out the spark plugs....Burnt plugs are bad...If there is a burnt one( especially number 4) I would proceed with performing a compression test on the cylinders. You should also notice a decrease in performance.......
IMO, the CEL is due to a bad O2 sensor. Get them to replace it......

P.S. Next time slow down on I-90

On the receipt from the dealer they say that it is a bad air control valve. They put a new one in and now its on again. Honda of Ithaca sucks.

If your CEL is on, go by an Autozone, and have them pull the diagnostic code for you. They will do it for free.

Good idea, gernby! Jimbo if you get the code, we can look it up for you in the shop manual and confirm / deny whether the dealer is on the right track.

I concur, it's almost certainly a sensor on the fritz. There's dozens of possible electronic sources for the MIL to be on, so you really need the diagnostic code to know what the dealer's up to.

no intake,100% stock. im getting alittle pissed since i bought the car 5 months ago the check engine light has been on about 90% of the time. im either waiting for an appointment at the dealership or waiting for a part. honda of ithaca sucks. its shitty that they happen to be the closest to me. i think i might go out of my way to take my car to rochester where i have gotten good service at ralph pontiac honda.

A CEL (Check Engine Light) is set when there truly is a problem.....it will flash if it is a big problem. It is in the form of an engine symbol. That being said to clarify things we'lkl get to the problem at hand. You are dealing with 1 of 2 potential codes and as you failed to mention if you have a cold air intake I'll cover them both:

P0410 is a code for the pulsed secondary air control system This system consists of a pump to pump cold air and reburn fuel on a cold engine. It will frequently set a false CEL if you rev up you car (as in showing off to friends). The pump also does have a bit of a failure history on its own. It is controlled by a solenoid valve which is FREQUENTLY misplumbed and results in a P0411.

P0411 is probably the most frequently encountered code on this board. It is related to the secondary air control solenoid valve. VERY frequently peolple who install CAI's do not install the vacuum line properly. You can do a search or feel free to PM me with your phnoe number and I'll set you straight.

Hi Bob,

No this time I think I have to correct ya'... The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is the OBDII terminology for the good ole' Check Engine Light (CEL). They are one and the same, and MIL is what you find when you study the Honda S2000 Service Manual. The "oil can" lamp is a low oil pressure warning lamp, and it is VERY serious. When you see that, you stop your car immediatly and check your oil, as the lamp is directly driven by an oil pressure gauge -- low oil pressure can kill your engine. Finally, the maintenance req'd lamp is a third lamp which is the most benign... It goes off as you approach your 7500 mile service intervals.

Did I get that right, my friends? Sorry, Bob, I hadda' set it straight.

Make sure that you check your manual!

I don't know the details from the top of my head, but I am fairly positive that cars sold in the US have an 80,000 miles warrantee for all emissions related components!!!!!

Keep us posted,
