Check Engine Light, Code P1456, Smell Gas

Got this stupid p1456 code this morning the gas cap was loose. My S is a 2002 hope it was just the gas cap. I dont smell gas the car runs great hope the cel stays off.

It should. That is the gas cap specific code and being that your cap was loose, I'm sure you've resolved the issue.

I always get a little oil off the dip stick when I'm checking oil levels during fill-ups. With your finger rub a little oil along the threads of the cap.. it'll go on smooth as butter.

for the filler neck issue, keep a small can of wd40. hit the threads on the cap and turn the cap like you would close a jar around the outer edge. I've had this issue from day one. Another trick is use the gas that drips from the pump after a fill, bottom line, keep the gas cap threads slippery.
