Check Engine Light is on!!! Need advice!!
I had just got off of work and started my car up and the check engine light came on and stayed on. I did not drive it hard before I went to work and the light was not on while doing so. There was a slight whistling noise coming from the front while driving back home. Has anyone hear this noise before? The Owner's manual states that the Check Engine Light comes on when there is a problem with the emissions. Could there be a problem internally with the engine? Or is it emissions related only? I'll be taking it to the dealership service department tomorrow. Any thing that you can think of why it's on? I'll keep all of you posted after I get my car serviced, but any information before I take it down will be appreciated. Thanks!!!
Not sure if this is the proper advice, but short of reading the codes and seeing what the problem is (which, since nothing out of the ordinary happened that could be considered a potential cause for the light), I'd reset it and see if it immediately comes back. chroot spun at laguna seca and his light came one. But a quick reset it and it wasn't on. probably a momentary condition caused by the spin. The whistling noise is probably one of two things: the air intake or the emissions air pump. If you hear it right after starting a car that wasn't warmed up, but it goes away within a couple of minutes, then it was likely the pump.
Read this FAQ here: https://www.s2ki.com/faqs/showfaq.php?threadid=17414
Also, did you mis-shift at all? Seriously, go through that FAQ and even if you didn't drive hard, try to remember if you did anything wrong. Check the oil cap and the gas cap - make sure those are on securely.

It sounds like you might have a loose hose.
Do you have the AEM or Injen intake? If so, check that one of the hoses didn't come off the vacuum control valve relay (that box that you had to screw onto the intake). One of the hoses is slightly too large; mine has popped off twice.

As for you Spanky;
The check engine light of MIL indicator (maintenance indicator lamp) is controlled by an on board diagnostics system which is quite complex. All S2000's use what is known as OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics Second Generation). In ODB-I used prior to 1996, only emissions based problems would trip the indicator lamp. As a concession to the automakers after 1996 the automakers can use the system for their own diagnostics. In other words it could be emissions or something else. Before you get worried about a major failure be advised that this light will come on for such smple things as an oil change. At about 6-6.5K the indicator will light to remind you of your 7.5K service. DO NOT reset the light as previously suggested. There are several mechanisms which set a code and if you reset the system a significant amount of data will be lost; long term fuel trim to mention just one of them. At a minimum go to the dealer and have the codes pulled down. There are several here that can tell you what the codes mean; myself included.

Thanks for the responses so far everyone.
My car is bone stock and never misshifted a gear that would cause any damages. I've read other threads that's been posted and wonder myself if it could be the spark plug being loose. I have not checked it yet, but a lot of other owners seem to have a problem with loose sparkplugs. Could this be it? Gas mileage seems to have decreased but it could have been psychological since I watched the temp. meter as well as the fuel meter since the light came on. I'm not going to drive my car for a few days until I bring it to the service center. I will keep everyone posted once I get everything figured out. Once again, Thanks!!
