on a thought..... if you have low oil pressure and rev up, and the oil pressure starts to drop where the car can't maintain locking the hi cam, can the CEL come on and then go off?
i know in the honda civic Si I had it would do that. when i took it in honda knew right away what the problem was, even though the CEL had gone on then off. it was low on oil.

I just bought a device called a Carchip at a local Autozone in N. California. Even though you can borrow a code reader from Autozone for free, I think the Carchip is worth owning. The Carchip is a module that attaches to the OBD2 connector under your dash. It records not only trouble codes but also other parameters such as speed over time, engine temp, etc at intervals over an entire trip. You then download the data to your computer to display and analyze. I paid $129.00 for the E/X model which records mor parameters over a longer period than the standard one which they were selling for $99.00. These are really good prices, Internet prices for the E/X generally fall in the $179.00 range.
I'd be interested in seeing a sample info sheet from this. Prouduct looks interesting and informative. Does it decipher the HONDA codes as it were?
Is the information recorded to model specific reports or does it say on some of the recording things like NA or Not applicable?

There could be hundreds of possibilities. Why even try to guess? It could have been a "blip" in the speed sensor for all we know!

What were the conditions outside...Mine did that once and it hesitated while I was WOT I saw the Check engine light come on and off as I was doing it...I tried the MAP Whack and so far so good!
Car may have gone excessively lean under load due to low fuel in tank. (rare but possible).
The ECM sees the lean A/F ratio, sets a temporary code.
When you let off the gas. The lean A/F ratio was corrected. Temporary problem is
gone. CEL turns off.

I think the "Lean" scenerio is a bit of a stretch. Especially when you shut the throttle the PCM shuts off the injectors. The AF goes super lean closed throttle, no fuel is being injected.
Flashing CEL means 1 thing, a misfire. A misfire can be cause by many different things, which will require a the specific DTC to troubleshoot.
