Default Checked my oil

I checked my oil today and I am a little worried. I have uploaded two pictures that show both sides of the dipstick. What do you think? I have about 2,500 since the last oil change. Always use Mobil 1. (I know, Mobil 1 supposedly burns quickly in AP1's) Here are the readings:

Side 1

Side 2

Why is there 2 sides to the dipstick? I thought if the oil reading was up to the 3rd "X" that was considered acceptable? Does anyone else consider this low? Thanks for the reply S2KIrishman.

Yes it is low. Always check both sides of the dipstick and go by the lower number. Add oil and keep track of how much it takes to have it full. From the bottom X to the top I believe is 1 quart. As long as you didn't run it down to like a quart or two of oil only you should be fine. Before driving just add oil until it is filled and make sure you check your oil more often from now on.

Thanks for the reply. How many quarts do you suggest I add before driving again?

I have no idea. Add the oil and check the dipstick as you add to know when it's full. Check both sides of the dipstick. Probably fine to drive but better safe than sorry.
AP1's are notorious for burning oil. Check oil level every 500 or so miles. More often if burning a lot of oil or driving the car really hard for extender period of time.

I also think, although I'm not sure, that it's 1qt from the L mark to the H mark. Maybe someone care verify positively. Assuming that's the case, if you are below the L then start by adding 1qt.

always check your oil on an area thats leveled and to be sure readings are always right, check on the same place you do to make sure your readings stay consistent

Modification is correct. from the bottom x to the top is about 1 quart. i would add half a quart.

but check it when its cold..... when its warm it runs and its hard to tell. last week i thought i was low on oil... i read very low like you are right now, but when i drained it... i had 4 1/2 quarts. so check when you have one or two bars if your an ap1. when its too hot its hard to tell...

if your below the x's your below a quart so just add like 1/2 and check and go from there if you need more or not.
