checking oil, is this normal?
ok, i have about 29k miles on the car and have switched to mobil 1 at about 13k miles. when i check my oil in the morning, only about 2 x's are filled with oil but there is oil residue on top of the empty x's. is that because synthetic is so lean that it wont stick or does that mean i have to add oil? i thought by now my car would have stopped eating oil. when should my car stop burning oil?

re-check at-least once. the initial reading is almost always deceptive. btw people have complained that mobil 1 burns off much quicker than regular dino oil, this is just what i have heard.

Your oil checking procedure might need a bit of tweeking. Here's a cut/paste of a response I gave in another thread:

The easiest and best time to check the oil in any car is first thing in the day BEFORE you start the car for the first time, HOWEVER, this is NOT the way Honda wants us to do it (they want a hot check).

I have found my car goes thru alot of Mobil 1 Synth 10w30.
Never really needed to add dino, but this Mobil 1 is different.
There are 69K miles on my motor now. I switched to dino at 60K. Better late than never!
I'm considering a different full synthetic, and looking for suggestions.

I still check my oil at every fillup and I'm at 99k(32k on engine #2).
The instructions Xviper posted are noteworthy. I prefer to check my oil in the morning before I go to work, just to get that warm fuzzy pre-flight feeling.
