Chirp/ring from behind dash at 3k rpm
was driving with the top down and I noticed a ringing/chirping sound at 3k rpm which seemed to be emanating from behind the dash, around the drivers side A-pillar.
I was able to hear the sound at 3k in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th gear. The sound started probably at 2850rpm, and continued to 3100rpm. I could not reproduce it on cue, but it always happened right around 3k.
The sound was only present when on the throttle, not necessarily accelerating though. It was an oscillating chirp chirp chirp. Not too loud, but loud enough to hear with the top down. definitely not coming from the wheel. Could possibly be from right behind the firewall, but it really sounded like it was just behind the dash. I could not distinguish if this was a mechanical, or electrical sound. Every time i put my head close to listen, I couldn't reproduce it
The trip was about 4 miles up a straight the road. the trip back I had the top up, and I could not hear the sound, if it was occurring.
I know, noise diagnosis is difficult, but if anyone has heard this before (It's pretty unique), please chime in.
