Post Clicking from rear axle

Well I thought i had this one beat. I had the driver's side rear click when the car started to move or back up. I waited a few weeks to re-torque it because I did not have the proper tools. Once re-torqued I figured the noise would go away, like it did the first time. Well it didn't. The bolt was chucked, so it has not moved.

Do I need to replace the axle? What parts do I need and is this something that a weekend wrench can handle?

fairly loud. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say a 3.

Bill...order some new axle nuts and let's try again and we'll lube the axle this time too.

i had the same problem, took it to the dealer and thought that it would go away after they re-torqued it, but it didn't. the dealer went through different test to figure out what was wrong (bearings, CV, diff...) after all that was done, they concluded that i should replace my axle...
Dealer's price was $800 but after our conversation they only charged me $385 out the door... dealer paid half. so far no noise... i don't fully know if that was the solution, some people say that you should just re-lube the axle nut, and the different points of contact, etc..... i don't know....
what i do know is, that annoying sound is gone!

my biggest worry is the drive-ability of it. If I wait to fix it, does it exacerbate the problem?

i had same issue. billman fixed mine. what happens is on the ends of the axles the caps get pitted. He switched the ends of my axels right and left side and no more clicking. Cost was like less than 100 for labor and thats it. I brought the car in to dealership 5 times. Couldnt solve the problem. It sounds like the axels.

Bill, I just changed my passenger axle to get rid of the noise you heard in my car. Bought a Cardone brand reman axle. 64 bucks. Noise is gone now.... If you want the part number and phone number let me know, if Robert's solution doesn't fix it and you need an axle.
