Clunking when changing direction
Hello,
I hope to get some advice on what this could be, I will try to describe it as well as I can as it is strange.
Sometimes when im driving forward, stop and go to reverse, when my car starts to change direction of travel i get a small series of clunks comming from under the car. It will also do it if I accelerate hard from a stop (not drop the clutch at 7k hard). The clunks sounds like metal clunks, if there is more than one cluck, the first one is always the loudest then the rest are quiet. Once im moving, I cannot feel any difference in the car at all on the corners or the straights.
Its got its service soon so I will ask them to check the subframe and suspension parts over for me, but I was curious if anyone has had this issue before?

Most likely a waste of precious Britisch Pounds
Your problems are that the axle can move a bit (eventhough it has splines) in relation to the hub, most likely caused by not enough axle nut torque.
So every time you change direction it moves and produces a clunk
Easiest solution: just retorque the axle nut to 220 lbf/ft (unstake-turn-restake)
The problem may be back pretty soon though.
Best solution: remove axle out of hub, clean splines and grease them, also put grease on thread and behind (new) nut, then go to easy solution.
Going all the way: I've also put a little bit of liquid gasket on the axle, where it touches the hub (before putting the axle back in) so its sorta glued to the hub.
This solution is also an official one, I've seen it on a copy of a TSB (or something, could have been a Honda service bulletin) posted here.
It ^ does make sense.
Search is your friend.
You're not alone
