Well, I pumped it rapidly per xv's instructions in another thread, and that seems to have done the trick. I didn't know what it would be like until I started the trip home this morning, but it feels normal... engages about 1/3-1/2 of the way up (as it did before), and only an inch or so of play at the top (as usual). Gear changes are also a bit smoother.
Consider it making up a little bit for all the times you've helped me.

I don't think it was a matter of getting all the air out. That pumping thing is to load up more fluid downstream of the master plunger. Because we have to manually lift the pedal (unlike the brake that comes up by itself), there seems to be a bit of "slack" (for lack of a better word) at the top of the pedal travel. "Bouncing" it seems to push that extra little bit of fluid to take up the "slack". Sorry for not having a better rational explanation for it.

On a side note, can ATE Super Blue be used as a clutch fluid?
I don't see why not. The clutch system won't get nearly the same kind of temp extremes as the brakes will, so this should be a "piece of cake" for ATE. Also, since the clutch fluid level doesn't go down like the brake fluid does as the brakes wear, you should be drawing much air into the reservoir - air that would contain water.

Caution: wait for other opinions just in case I'm smoking crack.

cool...mine is getting dark, almost black...I'll probably buy another quart and put in the clutch res too...hopefully clutch bleeding shouldn't be too bad if I'm not changing the line...
