Hi, i thought i was getting clutch slip around 8,000 kms but i read around the forums and apparently there is such a thing at a clutch delay valve to slow down shifts at high rpm? whats this for? to protect the drive train on a clutch dump?

just wanna chk if this is causing the effect i'm feeling now when i shift at redline at 1-2-3 especially when the power is slow to come in, feels like a clutch slip but i couldnt be sure.

along with that, i hear alot of folks here with s/c or mods which are on stock clutch and they say it lasts pretty long. any one care to comment?

any problems long term if i disable or remove this clutch delay valve?

 

not sure about long term problems, I don't have mine removed yet but I think it's safe to say that the clutch delay valve is what your feeling. The CDV slips your clutch to prevent shock on the drivetrain, so you prob. WERE feeling the clutch slip, but it's the CDV just doing it's job.

Depends on how you look at it. Honda put it there for a reason, but that doesn't mean you can go back to AP1 style (whether that be remove the internals of the valve or install an AP1 secondary master cylinder). Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe that if the flywheel is lightened the CDV won't slip.

The CDV regulates clutch engagement speed, but the clutch slip occurs because the pressure plate is not strong enough to sieze the clutch disc and flywheel, since in 2004 Honda put in a flywheel that is twice as heavy as the previous one, but did nothing to improve the pp's ability to deal with the extera inertia.

Get a lighter flywheel, or a stronger pp, or both, to improve the engagement. A stronger pp is the best route to go imo.

All the CDV does is prevent driveline shock, which is helpful on clutch dumps as well as normal shifting when driviung as it helps prevent a bad shift from upsetting the car balance.

Very confusing. We have contradictory advice here. Who has done one or both of the suggested changes? Can we get a definitive answer?

We can't know. Both have different feelings, but by his explanation that "power is slow to come in," I think it's too difficult to determine the culprit.

 

Not what I'm asking, sorry. Regarding the moderators comments. I hate the slip/delay with my 07. Do I need to replace the delay valve or not to get rid of it? Do I want a lighter flywheel or just the stronger pressure plate?
