Default clutch issues

My clutch all of a sudden has alot of free play in it. It engages/disengages about an inch off the floor with the rest of travel being free play. Anyone know why?

if the problem popped up out of no where, the car still engages and disengages fine, it is more than likely your fluid. it will get worse quick, you should do the bleed soon. there is a great DIY on the forum and it is an easy job

ya, its your fluid. had the same problem about a month ago....good

p.s. if the fluid change does not help, check into the clutch master cylinder/slave
you can get them from this website cheap

same here. just a bleed. i was pissed off because i was about 400 miles from home. thought i had to replace the clutch. it was hard to change gears without pumping the clutch. i checked the reservoir, is was empty. pulled my car up on the ramp and had a buddy help keep the reservoir full as i flushed the line. DO NOT GET FLUID ON YOUR PAINT. good luck.

the link i gave, if he reads it, is very adequate.....it mentions the ability of DOT 3/4 to eat paint etc...but ya, that is how this happens, if it has never happened to you, youll always expect to have to buy a clutch but fortunately, it only takes one experience from this before it is the first thing you will check..i had air in the lines and that was enough to engage at the floor. happened immediately without warning. easy job takes little time. the fluid in mine probably wasnt changed for 4-5 years....it was nasty black, the fluid gets nasty quick anyways...but i swapped ALL fluids shortly after the few first weeks i owned the car. now im on a clean slate
