Default Clutch Noise

When I press in my clutch pedal, I feel some friction that I don't normally feel. This is accompanied by a squeek. The noise is definitely from under the hood and not just the pedal mechanism.
Is my clutch going out?
Is there something that might be rubbing that I can lubricate?
Any other ideas?

The this is an '00 model with 16k miles.

I think it's more likely from lack of use... a MY00 with 16k miles?

The lack of use was due to the previous owner. I bought the car last year with 7.4k on it.

Cound it be the belts? if so try some "Belt Dressing," belts dry out and makes squeeking noises.

I guess my question isn't really wheater the clutch is going out or not. I don't think the clutch is worn out.
Are there any warning signs before the master or slave cylinder goes out?

Look on the drivers side floorboard, behind the clutch pedal. You'll see where the pushroad connects the clutch pedal to the master cylinder. It's a common place for a leak to occur.

Many mechanics consider that serpentine belts should not be treated with belt dressing. This was only for the old "V" type drive belts. Most serpentine belts don't squeak because most have an automatic belt tensioner. When a noise does occur here, it tends to be the tensioner itself.

Also, a squeak that is coincidental with the depression of the clutch would not indicate a belt noise.

87yj, another Calgary owner is going through what is similar to what you are going through. Here is the thread:

Follow the progression of that thread and you will see what has been done. He has still not found a conclusion to his problem.

I had the same problem and it was a leaking slave cylinder. But the symptoms you've got could come from a few different things. My guesses would be a bad slave cylinder, bad master cylinder, or release bearing fork in need of lubrication.

... does the pedal have a slight crunchy feel along with that added friction? If so, I had the same exact thing a couple years back and wasn't able to pin point the problem before I needed a new engine at which point I replaced the friction disk, throwout bearing and actuating fork. Don't know which if any (maybe just needed lube) of the parts actually fixed the problem but some data points for you never the less. At least you know what parts it wasn't ..... for me

RT, xviper, heffergm,

Thanks for the info, it appears to be very similar to the other thread. I feel crunchiness and here some noise after I've driven for a while, particularly when I've shifted several times during a short period.

I'll look for a leak.
