clutch pedal notchy, only when engine running
So my clutch pedal was starting to feel notchy. It would feel rough when you pressed the pedal, and it kinda had this notchy feeling.
So I knew from this forum, and the excellent diy on the subject that it was time to clean and lube the clutch pusher rod on the slave cyl. So the other night while doing an oil change I performed this service. Sure enough, it was bone dry. I cleaned and thoroughly polished the ball end on the pusher, cleaned the socket end inside the trans as best I could, applied plenty of urea grease to both ends, and reassembled.
Result is clutch felt like butta'. Until I started the engine to put car back into garage. Then it felt notchy again.
So then I experimented a little. Engine off, butta'. Engine on, notchy. Huh? So I drove it a couple of days to see if it changed, but its still the same.
To be honest I'm being a bit picky. If I don't pay attention to it you don't notice. I just find it odd that engine running or not makes a difference in how smooth engaging the clutch pedal feels. So wondering if anyone has thoughts on why.
The clutch is obviously spinning when engine is running, so maybe its the throwout bearing? The PO had the clutch replaced, only about 15k since then. Hopefully they did the TO bearing then.
