Default Clutch Replacement Labor and Parts

Hi everyone -

Hopefully I am not rehashing an old topic. I searched for the forums for a related topic but didn't find anything that seemed to answer this.

I took my 2001 S2K in today because the clutch had begun slipping. I was quoted about $1600 for the parts and labor (using genuine Honda parts, nothing aftermarket, etc.). There were four parts quoted (the pressure plate, disc, bearing, and bushing I think) as well as machining the flywheel. I've never had a problem with my mechanic before and haven't had any reason to think that he was trying to scam me, so I don't have a lot of cause to doubt him. However, I have been told in the past that the clutch replacement on the S2K was not going to be nearly this expensive. I was a little shocked by the quoted price but I don't really have a choice because it is almost un-driveable right now (I waited too long to take it in). Can anyone give me an idea if this quote is within a reasonable range for the parts and labor? Has anyone actually had this work done themselves and remember roughly what they paid for the work?

Thanks.

M

Pretty sure a clutch job with OEM parts can be done for under $1k...

Looking into this now. Parts around 750 (Hondapartsnow) including shipping. Labor around 400 locally friend of mine. Parts do include new flywheel too.

I charge $400 for clutch jobs, try searching your sub forum for the guru in your area that does it on the side. or look into the DIY.

also remember to change the pressure plate and flywheel bolts. Also the tube for the TOB that's mounted on the trans.

Imo not obscenely high, but you could do a few hundred better at the right place. Itemized estimate would be helpful, along with your mechanics labor rate.

I think under $1k is optimistic without getting a "friend" deal or not replacing everything that should be.

Price everything out on majestic Honda site. Take that to your local dealer to match the price. Then find a mechanic to do the job. Labor should be $400 on the low side $700 on the high.

What's your location. If the flywheel needs work. Just replace it, also replace the bearing guide sleeve.

Why replace the flywheel when a shop like Napa can resurface it for like $40-$60?
