Default Clutch Slip?

Ok so over the past few days my S has been acting weird and I'm not really sure what the issue is but I was thinking clutch. Anyway Here is how I would desribe it:

In 2nd when I hit about 6k RPMs sometimes the revs will climb really quickly but the speed doesn't climb with it.

Sometimes when I get started in first this happens as well though admittedly when I start in first I think I'm just hitting the gas too quickly before letting off the clutch.

This also happens on teh 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift but only sometimes (when in Vtec from one to the other) - not everytime.

My S has 28K miles, hardly ever launched (hasn't been launched in 2 years), well cared for etc.

Point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Clutch is slipping.

If you're lucky, the rod under the dash is serverly misadjusted, and putting pressure on the TO bearing. But I doubt it.

DAMNIT!!!!

I haven't touched the rod since I bought the car...what would cause it to be misadjusted?

Do you guys think I should replace with Hardtopguys deal or is this something where it'd only be a replacement of one part?

Since you're gonna have the transmission opened up, might as well upgrade.

I would personally go with the hardtopguy clutch package deal. I've driven a car with the ACT setup and the clutch feel and engagement is fantastic.

Austin,
Sounds like you need to may want to work on your clutch/shifting technique or regardless of which setup you get it won't last long.

You described that you knowing sometimes throttle before being fully off the Clutch...

Practice gettting that down soon or your clutches will not last you long....especially at High RPM shifting.

Yeah its been only lately for some reason I give it more throttle before letting off the clutch so I need to stop it. I'm going to take it out for a run on lunch and see if it is still misbehaving. Thanks for the help!

Ok so a bit of an update - I took the car out today and tried second and third. The revs push high but the car doesn't go at 6k rpm and higher then the car suddenly goes. This only seems to occur when i 'mash' the gas or accelerate quickly. In addition I got an odor of burnt something today. I also realized that the throttle thing I was talking about before was likely the clutch not engaging and NOT me giving the car too much throttle before letting out the clutch (I knew I wasn't doing this as often as it seemed). Anyway anyone want to comment? I'm about to buy a new clutch on HardtopGuys website but I want to make sure it is the right thing to do. Given these Symptons you guys convinced it is the clutch?

Thanks!

The smell is the clutch...and your definately slipping from your description. I think that originally the delay in your disengagement was from you still being on the clutch while accelerating. This caused the glazing of the friction disc.

Over time you've now realized this.....and now even after making sure your totally off the clutch at high RPM shifts.....you feel the car not engaging the next gear while continuing to climb in RPM's....

At least you've identified the problem..... get a new set up and practice what you've learned...

Good luck...

Tim
