Default Cold start, TCT, Valve or Belt rattle?

Hi guys,

After a good hard drive at a Track Day I've picked up a few noises from inside and outside of the car. Transmission fluid change later solved a slight whine noise from the transmission (fluid was a bit cooked) and an engine oil change solved a few clunks. However, there's a rattle noise coming from the front of the engine when starting up cold that didn't used to be there.

(ps if video doesn't play click on the title when you hover over)

Can anyone pick up anything on the audio? I listened to a few TCT videos on youtube and the rattle sounds kind of like that, but I'm also thinking it could just be a loose belt rattle. If it's a valve rattle and it's simply an adjustment, I can get that done as I'm due for the 120,000kms service.

Any feedback is welcome. Cheers.

If it is TCT, it can be heard with the hood closed from 8 feet away. It will be the first sound the camera picks up and it will be very obvious.

With that in mind, does that rattle sound suggest anything out of whack?

Had a mate of mine look at it and he suggests that it could be the valve clearance creating the knocking noise.

120k service includes valve adjustment.

Fortunately he has the tools that we need to do the adjustment, and following Robs's guide it should be straightforward and error-free. Then again I've never done one before, let alone do any real work on an engine other than an oil change.

Hey freaked_out - did you get this resolved? I'm having similar noises after replacing the TCT to an aftermarket one (built by 1 of the top 3 names in AM TCT). So I'm 95% confident it's not TCT.

What do you think? Sorry I'm moving the camera around so much. Just trying to get sounds from different points in the engine bay.

It sounds about the same as mine, so I'll let you know next week when I get a chance to do the valve adjustment. My mate suggested that a valve adjustment will solve it, like it's just the clearance is too much and the components are knocking making the noise, and that the s2000 engine makes a lot of noise it's usually obvious. Can you hear it from inside the car when you start up cold?

While I'm doing my adjustment I'll be checking the retainers and making sure they're in good order.

Apparently Billman has his own s2000 TCT's so if mines a bit shot and he's still selling I'll be hitting him up.
