Default Color changing oil? instantly?

I'm trying to figure out if I've been had, I brought in my S2000 for some service work today including an oil change. I brought 6 quarts of Royal Purple for them to use. After they had finished everything I went home popped the hood just to check to make sure they actually used it and when I took the dipstick out instead of being purple or brown or any dark color it was yellowish/gold.

I drove 70 miles before I checked it, but should it still be purple or is it normal to change from that to gold?

sounds like they may have pulled a fast one on you, there's no way royal purple will turn gold.

Well they changed the coolant, the tranny fluid, and the brake fluid. I just figured it would be quicker to let them do it. I really liked this dealer also... Also when I say gold it basically looks like any other regular type of oil thats still nice and clean.

I actually called mike smith honda back and told the guy that did the work I had called Royal purple. They told me it should have a purple tint to it if I wipe it off on a paper towel, well it didn't. I called Oreilly's where I bought it and some lady asked a customer there and he said that it should also be purple. I called my dad who called ASCO which deals with bulk oil, they said purple...

If in my situation what would you do?

Take it back to the dealer and tell them your oil wasn't changed?

When I have done something like that (0-20 in the Insight when 0-20 was hard to come by) I tell them I would like the empty bottles back. That doesn't mean they couldn't just pour my oil into already empty bottles and give me some other oil, but they would have to put some serious effort into taking the oil, not just keeping my oil.

Go straight to the service manager and explain your concern. Remind him that a logical person might assume that if they cheaped out on an oil change they probably put even less effort towards things that actually take a little work/time, say a flush of some kind.

I'd be very pissed.

I agree, you bought and paid for the Royal Purple oil and it appears that they didn't put it into your car - I bet they do this on a regular basis and are playing the odds that no-one will check the oil until it has time to change color. I bet they respond with something like "all oil changes color once it's been cycles through the engine for awhile...." Get them to refund the cost of the service or pay you what you paid for the oil they stole.
