Default Compression test question

I have a 2001 S2000. Swapped a new low mileage motor about 2.5 years ago. Recently past few months has been blowing smoke at idle and small amounts when accelerate/reverse. I thought maybe the valve seals?!

The car just doesn't perform like it used to. Definitely doesn't "pull" as efficiently as it used to. Today I did a compression test and this was the outcome! The numbers did jump but not drastically. I had not yet done a leak down test.

I was going to first try a valve adjustment and see if that helps any. If it is valves that is not a huge deal but if it is in bottom end I mine as well start shopping for a motor

Any insight is appreciated! Thanks

Dry compression numbers look fine to me -- only a max variation of 5.76% from max to min.

How high do you keep your oil level? I've noticed I tend to smoke when my oil/dipstick is at MAX [when cold] combined with hot weather and extended idling (2+ min). I've since been keeping my oil level at slightly below the halfway mark [when cold].

How many miles on the engine? When was the last valve adjustment done? When were the plugs last done -- proper plugs, proper gap, proper torque?

Someone recently posted a valve stem replacement DIY -- might be worth a shot -- I'll probably do it next year:

time to do that leakdown, it may be getting past the rings.

Yeah, I have the car parked right now. Definitely will do that hopefully this weekend. I got it from a totaled car awhile back.

thanks for the diy!! I will definitely be using it. It burns oil but nothing crazy. about 1 qt every 1,000 miles. I try and keep the oil .5qt or max. Mine was backwards. After a fresh oil change there was no smoke and the car drove pretty great. Now is about 84k on the engine. Not sure of adjustment last done. I have done the plugs less then 4k miles ago.
