Default Convertible top latch

My latch on the passenger broke at the point where the plastic slider catches. Any others had this problem? The dealer wants $140 for this piece. Any other suggestions?

I could be wrong, but the part you are referring to appears to be part no 60, 61 and/or 62 on this page. It looks like the price they are asking is close to this page.

Both of my top latches are broken for the second time, all sorts of little plastic pieces broke and periodically fall out of the latches.

I was sort of chalking it up to the fact that this is really Honda's first convertible, but one of my buddies had a Z3 and he laughed when I complained about the top mechanism- he says his Z3 latch was a much bigger piece of shit than mine.

So yeah, the latches suck, but at least we have company.

Duct tape. It's more reliable than the crappy piece of plastic inside the latch assembly and it costs 1/400th the price of a new assembly.

Unhappy

I've replaced it already. The thing that bugs me is that the whole assembly seems to be metal but the important piece that actually hooks around the striker is made of plastic. Why?

Thanks!
