Your 01 would of had Honda Type II. Any of the long life Ethelyne Gylcol/low silicate coolants (the green stuff) can be used. don't use Dex-cool or any of the Red or orange coolants.

Why do you need to change hoses? OEM hoses are excellent and rarely give problems on a 01.

Dont forget to use some waterwetter coolant additive from Red Line oil.

Why "non-Honda" anyway? The Honda stuff is cheap enough, and you know in advance that it will be compatible with everything.

Yeah, I was going to suggest the Honda stuff, but I also am interested why you didn't want to use their stuff.

No real need for Water Wetter, the stock cooling system doesn't need it.

Well, "non-Honda" because tomorrow is Sunday and the dealer is closed tomorrow, and tomorrow is the only day I have to do it for a while and i want to get it done.

I highly doubt it's the hoses. Has anyone ever added a coolant "stop leak" additive?

You're gonna have fun with the lower hose

I'm the only owner and no, I never used any StopLeak or anything like that.

Yeah, I know, neither one will be a picnic.

I have 100,000 miles...
Why dun't you wait and just get the Honda coolant. Do your hoses show signs of aging? Are they swollen, cracked or show signs of hardening?

At 100,000 miles, your cooling system needs to be flushed and re-filled with the Honda coolant, but I would wait until I had the Honda coolant.
