Cooling mods work!
FYI, I took out my Spoon thermostat and will be using a Mugen one instead. The Spoon runs an average of 10 degrees cooler than the Mugen. When I had the Spoon installed my cars water temp wouldn't get above 160 on my entire drive to and from work, which is about 8 miles each way. Not a good idea IMHO.
I don't think the temp guage is displaying radiator temp. I think it is displaying the temp from the block. If it were displaying radiator temp, the temp would be cooler in higher gears (slower coolant flow and high air flow).
gernby,
I was in DFW (Irving) yesterday for a job interview...I believe the temp during the day was mid-70's. Side note...I'm realy hoping for this job to go through, and if it does, the better half is looking at a place in Plano. Anyway, you could put an electric valve on the radiator line with a switch in the cabin...close it completely during cold starts, open it partially during normal driving with full open for track events. Slap a simple timer on there to prevent Alzheimers kicking in and forgetting to open it up after warmup.

I don't really know how to test the pump without using a flow meter, or possibly a pressure sensor. If there was a pressure sensor in the coolant line FROM the engine TO the radiator, and there was some sort of a restriction between the pressure sensor and the radiator, then it seems like you could plot pressure based on RPM. I don't think you could really calculate GPM from that, but a higher pressure would indicate higher flow, right?
