We were just doing this to my nephew's Civic which is the same crank as ours. You will need a long ass extension to your breaker bar... plus the Honda Crank Pulley tool. Amazon has it for $25.

For that tool, do I need one wrench to hold the pulley? And another to loosen the bolt?

Here's the way I did it...and it came right off

Tools:
Breaker bar, 2 (I have 18 and 23mm)
Metal pipe about 3 feet long that will slide over one breaker bar. I have Home Depot's 18", and they have pipe that slides right over it for cheap.
19mm DEEP socket, 6 point
Powerbuilt tool
Jack Stand

I put the breaker bar/pipe with the 19mm socket, and the 23mm breaker with the powerbuilt tool. I braced the 23mm/tool bar against a jack stand on the support beam under the hood (used cardboard as padding, careful of AC lines). I then pulled on the cheater pipe on the smaller breaker/19mm socket. It will take at least 300lb-ft to remove the bolt. I advise spraying with penetrating lube...I used PB Blaster.

They key is using physics to your advantage. Giving good, quick, hard pulls is what will loosen the bolt, because in those quick pulls, you are putting more force on it than you could with a longer, sustained pull.

When I had to remove my crank pulley, it was perceived as the hardest thing, but once I did it, it was off in 20 minutes. And I did it myself.

on the last like 5 motors I have torn down broke everything and I ended up having to take the torch to the crank pulley bolt. Once its red hot it will come right out w/the air gun.

Just like Wadzii said. I also hit it with a hammer and sprayed some lube on it; PB blast, WD-40.

that's a good way to damage your crankshaft oil seal...

The crank doesn't usually get hot enough to hurt the seal. Even if it does... it takes 10 seconds to change and costs around 10 bux

i've done it on two civics using this method and found the crank pulley holder method to be the easiest...you need to use two breaker bars. one is for holding the crank pulley and the other is for turning the crank pulley bolt. i used two $10 25" bars from harbor freight. i also used a really long pipe on the breaker bar turning the bolt. never broke any tools using this method either.

some people claim you can put the tranny in the highest gear to hold the crank but this method never worked for me. either the car moves or the clutch slips. the drivetrain is just too springy.

some people claim a huge impact wrench works for them. i guess this might work but you need a really really big compressor and a really big impact gun. this is because the springy drivetrain absorbs a lot of the energy from the impacts.
