Default Crankshaft question

I have been thinking about installing a new crankshaft in my S2000. I heard that this will help increase low end power a bit. I was also thinking about installing a cold air filter as well. Has anyone done these mods, and what is the difference in the pre-VTEC performance? I'm not looking to make my car a monster, just give it a little more kick down low.

I haven't heard anything about new cranks. I don't see any reason why a new crank would make a difference in power unless it changed the stroke. This doesn't sound like something you would want to do.

The cold air intake can make a couple of extra horsies, but not really noticeable, and it will be significantly louder than stock.

crankshaft alone is not worth it. Import Builders can lighten and blueprint and knife-edge a crank. diGital.James had Crower build him a custom stroker crank. Feel's has a stroker kit available also. Changing the crank will be expensive for the power it'll return.

I see. I read read reviews about the SC's and wasn't really impressed. I don't drive too fast in my car and I am happy with the car after I get to VTEC, but I just wanted to do something about the low end power around 2000-4000 rpms. I hardly ever drop the cluch in fear of breaking it.

I am also not in favor of buying a turbo for my car becasue of all the possibilities of problems.

I am not interested in NOS either.

Actually, I really would like to keep my S as stock as possible while giving the car a little more kick. Is the engine able to handle a port and polish job?

www.alaniztechnologies.com

alaniz has done some work I think on our head. Short answer. Yes. I hope to p&p my head, do a valve job, and also port the throttle body and intake runners. Alaniz does work on erick aguilar's 10-second all motor civic, and they seem to be quite knowledgable about honda's in general. This is where I plan to have my work done. When the time comes. It will surely help the motor breath at the top end, but sometimes a port job will actually lose power in the low end, requiring the engine to spin up to make use of all that air flow. You may contact them. There isn't a lot you can do to simply add torque into the middle on this motor, unfortunately. Before porting the head, I'd say intake and headers would get you started, then if you need more, go with a port job, you'll need the intake to help the port job breath anyway, in my opinion.

* you can also put in a lighter flywheel to deliver a little more power to the wheels. I'd recommend the Toda. It doesn't make *more* power, but you will feel it.

BUY GEARS they wont strain the motor, and they are the easiest way to make more power with out making more power. A higher gear ratio will give you more power down low, plus you dont have to take the motor apart, only the rear end.

Ok, I think that I like the gear option. What gear ratio should I go for? What do I need to do? What parts must be purchased, etc? Also, how much will all of this cost. One more thing, what will my top speed be reduced to? I don't really care about going any faster than 130 MPH.
