I've had the same problem for about 6 months. Honda dealers have been totally useless to find and fix the source of these codes, and I think you're putting way to much faith their capabilities. With a few exceptions, most of them have piss poor service departments, largely because they don't pay their techs enough and can't keep good ones for very long.

If I can't fix this problem myself in the next few days, my car is going into the nearby Acura dealership. They seem to be far more capable in dealing with my S2000 than Honda dealers, even though they're all part of the same company. The Acura techs are better trained and better paid.

I talked to my neighbor (the one on a trust fund who used to be an Acura and Honda tech) again this morning about this. He said a top tech can make $60 - $70K, but most make much, much less than that.

And I can't imagine that Acura techs sit in the same room with Honda techs for training on the S2000, since Acura does not service S2000s. In fact, that was exactly my point. I get better service on my S2000 from the Acura dealer, where the techs have no training on the S2000.

My information comes right from the source. I used to do the payroll for Acura and Honda. Yes it is true that not all techs make 100K per year. You have A, B, and C techs. An A tech will make 100K per year with ease if he applies himself. If you know someone who is making 27K per year he is a C tech or he is getting ripped off. A good A tech at the Honda dealer I used to work for would turn 80-100 hrs @ $21.00 - $26.00 per hr. I have a freind that works for a VW dealership and he just bought a 425,000.00 house and he is single. An A tech at the Acura dealer I work for will turn 70-120 hrs @ 17.00- $21.00 per hr. You freind that is making 27K is making much less than an average service writer. Average pay for a Service Writer is 50-75K per yr. You can make up to 100K (depends on who you are working for)

As far as the training classes it is true. Honda and Acura are the same company. Why would they seperate training? Diagnostics on a Honda is no different than diagnostics on an Acura. Audi and VW share traing as well as Toyota and Lexus. JUst remember you are taliking to someone that IS IN THE BUSINESS..........in other words I am not a judgemental individual on the outside.

i also work at a dealership and it has to do with how good you are. there is a guy who is only 28 years old that is making the most out of all techs(even the ones who've been techs for 30 years). techs average anywhere from 10-16 bucks an hour. this guy makes like 24 per work hour, because he can do almost anything when it comes to cars. if a service advisor wants something hard done in the shortest amount of time(but with excellent work quality), they ask this guy.

i guess it has to do with how good your reputation and work ethics are. if you're lazy and do crappy work, you will never get a raise.
