Default Damage from possible Hydrolock?

well I have read the forums about hydrolocking using the search and I didnt get much peace of mind so I'm hoping you guys can help me plus I have read that the search isn't really helpful here. I have an AEM V2 CAI that unfortunately came with the car when i bought it (i say unfortunately since from what I've read here CAI only adds like 2-3 HP and i rather have the stock and NOT worry about hydrolocking but I havent had the $$$ to change it). Anywayz heres the story: EXTREMELY rainy day in Miami today and since I'm terrified about hydrolocking the car I put my hazards on and drove extremely slow. After a couple of blocks i feel the car booging a bit and i start driving a bit slower when I'm about to turn into my destination theres a HUGE puddle so i come to a complete stop before going over the puddle and the car turns off! (some light(s) might have turned on: think it was the oil light) I get out in the rain and push the car away from the puddle, across the street and leave it in a parking spot. Came back like 8 hours later and the car turned on fine (some smoke coming out of the exhaust) let it warm up and drove it home just fine except for a CEL on for maybe 10 seconds. Now this is the SECOND time this "mirror" hydrolocking has happened to me and exactly the same both times. I have had the CEL light up before but for about maybe 30 seconds (not blinking) and havent seen it in a month and then i saw it again when i was driving the car back home today. I'm just wondering what I should do since the CEL doesnt stay on (dont know if Autozone will still read the codes) and the car has turned off on me twice in the rain so I want to know the best way to check if I have gotten any damage from these two incidents. O and BTW im buying that by-pass valve tomorrow untill i can save up for the stock intake. so yea im just worried if i've messed up the engine in anyway? for now or the long term?

Hi,
not sure that bypass will help you in bad rain but have you blocked
that drain hole above the AEM in the engine bay and made or bought
an umbrella for the filter?
If not i have heard rain will pour onto the filter and will collect in the AEM pipe as it turns upwards. Just what i have read mind you.

Sorry i cant help you with that CEL issue.

After doing a fair bit of research on those pipes i decided after buying one to cancel it and get my money back. Good luck with the problem.

Barry.

first of all thanks for the reply! and I've been trying to do my research on all I can find about hydrolocking or possible hydrolocking and read about that drainage hole checked it and no it is not blocked and i dont have an umbrella for it even though i heard that would only help when the car is parked and not moving. I also checked the oil since I read you should check this and it looked fine

yea good idea. i dont think a the 2hp increase and the "cool sound" is worth the headaches

i turned it on this morning and the car started idle surging from 1,500 to about 2,500 so I just turned it off immediately and just came back and inside and cried

i just want to know what I should do to check if I have damaged the engine or not

Probaby not a good idea to be turning the car on if its throwing a CEL...

Either way, did you check your air filter? Was it soaking wet?

And also...

my idle is pretty high when i first start the car cold. As the car warms up the idle begins to drop. Is this what you mean by surging...? If so, it *may* be normal.

If you mean its wildly bouncing between 1500-2500 rpm, thats a different story...

once again thanks for the reply but the CEL turned on for about 10 seconds on the way home and turned off. thats why i dont know if it will still show a code if I take it to a auto part store since the CEL is not on. The filter I havent been able to check since its enclosed in a lil box behind the front bumper so I'm guessing i need to take the bumper off or something to get to it and yes the RPM's are "bouncing" when idle...

i just installed a V2, and am interested in hearing what the issue is if you ever find out.

from what i've read, you cannot use the bypass valve with the V2. why? i'm not sure. i've duct-taped the drain hole under the hood, but i haven't made an umbrella for it yet.

so far i'm really happy with the V2 (first mod).
