Default Dangers of removing airbox cover

As "recommended" by a fellow S2K owner, I took the car for a spin with the airbox cover off. Other than the fact its sucking really hot air from the engine am I in any real danger? Obviously the rice factor of a slower louder mod is huge, but it could be fun for a while....

any tips?

I was wondering if anyone had any bad experiences like this, I have ran this setup for about 4 of the last 6 months. I know it hurts your gas mileage... or at least mine did

your filter might get a lil dirtier sooner but no big downsides IMO

also, on the highway with a good amount of air movement, I doubt taking the lid off actually hurts performance

My air box cover is off with a K&N filter. I also have a snorkel going from the grille to the front opening on the air box. I have the cool sound and likely no horsepower change + or -

You will loose major power with the lid off, that's a fact. It's a bad idea.

Do a roll on with a buddy's s2k. Once with the lid, once without.

Without the lid, you will get walked real bad....this has been proven many times.

Don't need numbers...I'd guess about 12-18 hp depending on conditions.

Do the roll on test, you'll see

HOLY JESUS...that's 13% of our total horsepower! Looks like I'll be putting that thing back on and getting an exhaust so I can get the cool sound.

Get an intake like an AEM, Injen, Comptech....you'll get the sound and keep the power. Maybe even gain a few.
