Default Decelerating causing rattling in 04...

Hey all. I've got an 04 that has a heatshield type vibration/rattling in the front right that is heard decelerating in 5th/4th/3rd/2nd gears between 4 to 3000 rpm. The dealer has stated that he contact American Honda and they have suggested that it is similar to TSB-0054.

However, this is a known issue with 00-01's...or is it?

Any other post 01 owners have a similar problem? I think it's a loose heatshield, but they can't find anything and are suggesting a clutch noise. Which if it is, I can't accept TSB-0054 as a possible problem.

All input is much appreciated.

I have the isuse on my '04. It is identical to the issue I had on my '01. I had TSB-0054 completed on my '01, but the deceleration noise came back after time.

It's extremely annoying, but I've just learned to "deal with it."

I wish there were a legitimate way to fix this issue

i think the only way to fix it is an aftermarket disc, but i hear the honda disc is best for this car.

Well, I belive the reason it rattles are the springs that are contained inside the pressure plate. They beefed them up for the TSB, but I don't think it was enough.

Most sprung aftermarket disks are even worse, and an unsprung disk is not a good choice for street use. This is simply the gear lash in the transmission causing the springs to vibrate and it gets a little worse over time. There is no fix.

Reading that first post that another 04 owner is having this issue, I'm going to stop politely harrassing my dealer and just live with it. If it gets any worse then I'll go back...

Thanks!

hmm, would putting in a few strategically placed cushions between spring coils fix it?

koala, the springs are in the disc (4 of them I think), not the pressure plate. yea the pressure plate has springs, but not the springs that vibrate.

Just in the last week I've begun to get a "buzz" just above 4K when decelerating with throttle shut. Is this the same thing? It was the first thing I thought of when I heard it but I had thought it was only on earlier MY as well...
