Most people misunderstand mag oil plugs - they are tattle-tale devices, not practical ones. They are useful for diagnosis - if huge chards are found, something is about to give way, or already has. Better to tear it down than risk a hole in the block or grenading the bottom end.

The gunk on normal oil changes either sits at the bottom of the pan, or would be in the filter by now. Most of the little pieces are too fine to do anything bad - i have found magnetized carbon fiber material, from the cylinder liner material. Normal wear stuff.

And yes, if you pay more than a handful of bucks, you are foolish.

They also have the cool gaskets I like - the ones with the rubber insert.

This guy's service is fast, and the quality good. When i ordered the wrong one during a lapse of concentration, he just sent me the correct one, without asking for more $. Even though i had sent him some sales, i thjought that was classy.

I am not a really a mechanic, but isn't our engine supposed to be aluminium?
how can magnetic pick up aluminium? For the tranny, yeah. I don't have them yet, but plan to get a magnetic drain plug for the tranny. actually, if u got a plate type lsd, it helps a lot to put a magnetic drain plug on the diff, I just did my fluid change a couple days ago, jesus, the waste fluid was full of metal debris. but I don't know where to find one

The block, head and intake manifold are all aluminum, but the crankshaft, bearings, cams, cylinder walls, etc... are not aluminum. Normally, metal you'd find in your oil would be coming from bearing surfaces.

I had thought there was a magnetic plug in the diff.

Metal debris? Are you doing lots of clutch drops?

Our diffs are not clutch-type; they are Torsen.

do a search. road rage posted the exact same thing without the spoon name for about 4 bucks. save yourself some cash.

look here

bottom of the page part number 1085m

thanks to RR for showing me that one.
If I'm going to pay for shipping, I might as well get a tranny plug as well. Does anyone know which part number that is from this site (assuming there is one)?

Thanks!

well i'm never ordering from that place again. my order came out to 7.75 but i got a charge to my credit card for 8.
obviously this isn't about the quarter but the attitude to round up the price.
still no response from them, very shady.
holla!

They charge your credit card more because your credit card company charges them for every transaction they take with credit cards...

Arco does the same with their gas stations...
