Default Denso Plugs

My son bought me some Denso iridium plugs for Father's Day. I put them in last night and I can recommend them. I'm impressed with the improved idle and smoothness. The gap out of the box was way too small, so be sure to gap them before installing.

BTW, the old plugs looked like sh!t! I was also shocked at how little torque it took to get the old ones out. I have seen numerous posts on loose fitting plugs from the factory and I now can relate to them. I highly recommend checking your plugs out if you haven't done so already.

What do you use to gap the plugs with, and how much gap did you add in?

Ordered my plugs this evening. Not really looking for a power increase (although I wouldnt say no to one), but hopeing they smooth out my idle a little bit.

do a search on iridium plugs or denso - there has been a lot of previous discussion about these plugs. I was able to find info on what the gap should be and what kind of tool should be used to change the gap. I would be happy to tell you the gap that I used, but:

1. I can't remember what it is right now,

2. I have the comptech SC, so my gap would probably not be the same as you would use

Wow...what a difference. I have had a set of these plugs in mine for 2 months with the factory gap. After seing this thread, I pulled them out and regapped them to factory spec (.044) and it runs like a charm.

By the way, Does anyone know what a larger gap does? And if you run a gap larger than specified, what can happen?

My question then evolves into this...

Is the factory spec gap of .044 good or can it be a bit larger due to the nature of this plug?

Thanks for the info, by the way.

I stayed with the upper limit of the plug gap spec knowing that with Denso, spark quality (i.e. spark density or strength) and reliability may be better than stock at the same gap.
