Default devices for logging, specifically timing

are there any tuning devices besides the aem ems that can log critical tuning functions? things like spark timing, afr, knock count, egt, air mass, manifold pressure etc etc???

how do tuners tune the s2k with or without these functions being monitored?

EGT and Mass air flow are not supported PCM data stream information. The most effective OBDII scan tool that will display all Honda supported data stream is one of 2 scan tools from Honda.

There are several generic OBDII scanners that will display most of the data, just not all of it. Some of the non-supported data is VTEC, ignition timing, air pump operation, ELD, alternator control and EVAP systems.

can the scanners actually log things like timing? cuz otherwise the only way to log would be to put the scanner up next to your tach nad make a video and review it constantly... that's a damn hard way to tune a car yourself.

I have a scan tool that hooks to a laptop so data can be saved to a file. I don't know exactly what details I can get (I have monitored temps, timing) or what the company offers but I would look at them. Useful for checking codes and restiing CEL.

I was reading an article about this the other day. They were saying that the typical OBD2 data rates are too slow to monitor this in real time and get an accurate reading. Basically the sample rate's too slow. I believe the data rate's something like 8000 bps or something in that range.

I've hooked my scanner up to canbus equipped cars and the data update rates seem much faster.

The PLX logger will do the trick. Here are some of the displays ...

plx still uses the odbii to log timing which is more or less the most important function to log.

that's not a bad thing though, you can just do 3-4 runs which you should be doing anyway to fill in the blanks.

if this is the case however it's probably just as easy to use innovate, plx or zeitrnonix to log. just need specific harnesses made.

if someone wanted to read all the assmebly and figure it out you can bypass the odbii port and log the timing and other engine stuff directly off the ram. this is done in both subarus and mitsubishis because there is a diagnostic port that has a much faster data rate.

i wonder if anyone would look into it...
