Only if it's GL-5 rated

Should be 75w90, too

ask them exactly what they put in...actually get the bottle from them and see for yourself...actually just to make sure i'd change the diff fluid again and this time do it yourself.....a lot of dealers are putting in wrong diff fluid.

there are 80w90 diff fluids out there. i wager that GEA is actuall GEAR, but it just cut off the "r". unfortunately there are GL5 and GL4 rated diff fluids for that weight, so we dont know if they put the right stuff in. (koala, 80w90 is ok to use as long as it's GL5)

people post like this a lot, and i'm confused why people dont ask the dealership right away when they get the car back if they used GL5 fluid or not.... instead they get the car, say nothing, then post here. at that point you may have screwed yourself over already if they did NOT put the right fluid in there.....

Ah yes, you're right.

And I agree... why wouldn't you make sure they're going to use the right stuff before they begin the work?

no no guys I did ask them before hand. and they assured me it was the correct fluid and that they are aware of some dealerships putting the wrong fluid in. I said great and went on my way. then when I got home I checked the printout and it said what I just posted. so I called them just now and he said its just some generic printing system and that he personally checked and made sure that it was correct. I just didn't know if the 80w90 was correct or not.

thanks anyway

Wouldn't the dealer be required to replace the diff(when/if it blew) if they put the wrong fluid in?

the problem is you may not be able to prove that the wrong fluid was in there, cuz most dealerships won't admit such a thing.

The dealerships near me use bulk 80w-90 GL5 from a barrel. As has been already mentioned, 80w-90 is fine as long as it is GL5.

80w-90 is correct. Did they use a GL5 type oil?
