Default dif fluid

I have pmed a few ppl and they said all i needed was the basic ratchet and sockets.. i got under my car and my basic ratchet and socket is to fat to fit on the difs fill bolt. do i need some kind of low profile ratchet? What size is the bolt exactly? i was getting a 15/16 socket to fit it but the wrench i have that size seemed to just keep slipping and it was going to strip the bolt so i stopped.

The fill bolt uses 23mm and the drain is 24mm. I use a 23mm socket on the fill bolt. I cut mine using a dremel so that it can fit it with my torque wrench. Good luck.

use a box wrench on the fill - there should be enough room to fit one

Yeah. The box wrench will let you access the fill bolt. Use a torque wrench on the drain though since it is probably more important to have the proper torque there because there is less of a chance of a leak from the fill bolt. But if you are anal like me, then I recommend proper torque on the fill as well. The only way you can do that is to use a low profile 23mm socket, or cut a standard 23mm socket like I did.

Torque wrench on the drain bolt, box wrench on the fill bolt. sizes mentioned above. Torque the drain bolt (I want to say 31ft-lb, but it might be 29), then use muscle memory to try and torque the fill bolt to the same number. It is NOT critical that you torque this 100% accurately, but you just don't want to over torque it too much. Slightly undertorquing is ok.
